two more measurements and one more cut and it fits. I unscrewed one side and ran it through the table saw.
I operate in the method of measure twice cut twice, maybe 3 times.. it’s about 3/4 “ too wide.

Obviously the only solution is to cut the extra 3/4" out of the middle, then use ratchet straps to hold the two sides together.

Seems to be off by the thickness of the sides, I wonder how that happened :)
Looks savable, though. Just an annoying issue to have.

I just assumed i had more than enough room in the opening. the walls are 1" off the sides of the tras h barrel. I never thought to check the opening. it is pretty close to being off by the thinness of the sides though. I think thats just a coincidence
